Together for a better future

Together for a better future is a non governmental organization that focuses on dealing with social issues and educating the community and the youth on recent events. Our goal is to increase the quality of life in our communities and building better futures for the youth by providing them with the correct and valuable information and equipment. The quality of life in many communities has decreased due to covid 19. It has left many unemployed and some have lost their loved ones to the virus. Since the virus is fairly new, it has created ground for people to spread fake news because of the uncertainty they have about the virus. People who are hesitant on taking the vaccines which were introduced are now claiming that the vaccine kills. It is said that people die after taking the vaccine but doctors claim that those people only die because of old age or some underlying diseases and not caused by the vaccine. This has created and opened way for people to come up with conspiracies against the vaccine. People are now starting to believe that the vaccine kills instead of healing because it was proven that one of the side effects of the vaccine is that is stimulates blood clots of which is very dangerous for the body.

People usually ignore important context and only read bits and bits of information. That creates misinformation because then, content is not understood and only a certain percentage of information is captured. "The vaccine has been disproportionately given to the population that is disproportionately dying" said Dr. Jill Foster, this is an example of someone who was misquoted and used to make people believe that the vaccine kills. Citizens should start doing proper research and not settling on one source of information in that case they will be able to set apart false information and something that is genuine. New information is released everyday as the whole world is in a fight to stop the virus and to keep citizens safe whilst still protecting economic growth. Conspiracy theories have made some citizens to lose faith in their governments, many are not true but are made to seem like they are true by people for many reasons one of the reasons could be manipulating public opinion. This has caused emotional distress for many as they do not know what tomorrow holds. Many South Africans have started taking the vaccine and so far no case has been reported and that means there is no one who is experiencing severe side effects after taking the vaccine.

Social media has a huge impact on our daily lives and the way we view things. It creates a great platform whereby communication can take place easily and effectively. Todays generation barely watch the news so they rely on social media to keep updated on current affairs . Social media is full of peoples opinions and views and that could cause readers to mistaken opinions as facts and end up passing it on to other people. Mobilizing social media users to react quickly by sharing the correct information and content could end misinformation, and also advising people to double check information before passing it on can stop fake news from trending. In conclusion, the public has the power to stop misinformation by not sharing and also by not believing conspiracies without concrete proof.
